Exclusive interview with Edward Wilson on his latest film project Lost Girls.

We recently sat down with one of  Chicago’s brightest and hard working independent filmmakers following their dreams Edward Wilson. He shares insight on his latest film project Lost Girls and gives advice to the aspiring directors.

Tell us about your current film project Lost Girls.

My current project called is Lost Girls and it’s a story about a 17 year old girl who runs away from home and she gets involved with an older man. She goes through domestic violence and abuse.

What type of message do you want your audience to walk away with the film Lost Girls?

This particular film I think the message is to really to pay more attention as to how youth is looked at and especially how young girls are looked at. Love is considered one of the most powerful things on the planet. Wars are started with love and great things are accomplished with love. What if Love is manipulated? Especially being young they really don’t have an ideal of what true love is. What if love is manipulated in a way to just get them? I think the film can be viewed as a wake up call to what going on in young women life how and how they view love.

Who are some of your favorite directors that you desire to work with?

My favorite directors of course are the classic Martin Scorsese and Antoine Fuqua who is one of my favorite directors. I generally don’t have favorite directors because every director is unique in their own way. I have more like favorite films Quentin Tarantino- Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

What’s in the horizon for you in 2015?

My goal is to be premiering Lost Girls on several screens, I like to be working on second feature film, just keeping the ball rolling, and building my brand as a filmmaker because I am going up.

Tell us about the Film & Network event you hosted in early March?

The event was actually very successful and I actually lucky we didn’t get more people to come out because we actually ran out of space. I feel very blessed It was a great turn out. It lot of directors and actors and lot of networking. I look forward to working with a lot of the directors and actor that I met that event. We are looking to do another event in late July or early August this year.

Edward’s Advice:

My advice to Directors is to watch as many films as possible and really understand them. Don’t worry about equipment if you have a cell phone camera or beta camera. Keep making films because the only way to get better is to keep making films. Don’t be too critical of yourself and don’s take other peoples feedback too critical because it will set you back. As filmmakers, we want our products to be the best films. We are looking to make Oscar winning films right out the gate. I think filmmakers need to understand it’s going to take time to grow.

You are not going to have an academy award winning film out the gate you have to build yourself up.  Don’t beat yourself up.
