A LITTLE BLACK GIRL LIKE ME

Black Woman Like Me

When I was little
All I could see
Was judgmental faces looking down on me
it wasn’t my shoes that they hated so much
and it wasn’t that my clothes weren’t soft to the touch
When I was little
All I could see
Straight hair, light skin (dolls)
Nothing close to looking like me
thin waist, with a made up face
curvy hips and thighs to hold its clothes in place
When I was little
All I could see
Was a chocolate Hershey bar face
Looking in a resemblance of me
Kinky hair, dark skin (me)
Straight waist, full lips, no hips or thighs to hold my clothes in place
When I was little
All I could see
Was them pointing their fingers
At a black little girl
LIKE ME!!!!
