Exclusive interview with Author Kimberly Jasper

Kimberley Jasper is an author that is multi-talented as she writes in two genres; one being adult fiction, and the other being horror fiction.  She can be defined as a phenomenal woman because of the many hats she wears as a mother, a mentor, a writer, and a student.  Using her gifts and talents to share stories in adult fiction and horror fiction with authentic messages keeps bringing readers back for more.  She is able to capture her audience with such dynamic plots and storyline twists that they keep asking for more.

Tell us about your latest novel The Chronicles of Epiphany Jones Volume II

The latest novel that I am hoping to release in the next month or so is The Chronicles of Epiphany Jones Volume II.  I made a few changes because I had a lot of my reader’s feedback, much more than I expected, given this is my third novel.  So, I made changes and listened to my readers.  They wanted a certain something to happen… (She laughs).  I am working on a prequel to my first novel What Hatred Breeds.  Due to popular demand, there is this one character that everybody loves, and they wanted to get more about her.  So the prequel is about her life.  This is a totally different genre from The Chronicles of Epiphany Jones Volume II which is, of course adult fiction; while What Hatred Breeds is horror fiction.  The audience loved the villain Stella and that will be my fourth novel The Evolution of Stella Moreau, so you get to see how she got to be so adversarial.

What is the message you want your readers to walk away with after reading one of your novels?

They are both such different messages. I will start with “What Hatred Breeds it is a horror fiction, and I will say fiction, that’s my story and I am sticking to it. (She laughs) It’s a very young couple starting out, and everybody can relate to it, you know the evil mother in-law. I just took it to a whole different level.  It’s set in Houston and New Orleans.  For the most part, although this women is greatly feared in New Orleans.  All the heroine in this book does is pray. All she does is pray for her family and she stands strong no matter was comes at her.  The message is that no matter what you face, you can get through it with prayer. With the second book, the message is the same only for different reasons.  Although it’s adult fiction, the main storyline in The Chronicles of Epiphany Jones Volume II is that Epiphany is working on her career, trying to make it in New York and then suffers the loss of her mom, and it’s personal to me because I lost my mom.  What got me through it was being able to write this character to be strong.  I learned to be strong by making my character strong.  She would get through daily just to make her mom proud.  My message is strength.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Dean R. Koontz was kind of like my first intro to horror fiction.  I read this book when I was 14 years old called Darkfall.  It was my mom’s book, and I get my love of reading and ability to write from her.  This was one of the things we were able to share and this is both of our favorite authors and books.  I have read every one of his books.

Who would you compare your writing style to?

I have heard and I have never ever read her work; when I first started writing I gave my first novel to a friend of mine who is very well read.  She said, “I wrote like Zora Neal Hurston.”  I never read it, but I watched it because Oprah presented “Their Eyes Were Watching God”.  I took my friend’s word for it and I was honored when she said that, and she does not read horror at all.  She literally could not put the book down and she said I was really good.  If she says I have a writing style like so and so, I believe it.  Because she reads for so many people, I will take her word for it.  On my horror writing style, I would say it’s Dean Koontz.  He likes to make the story move really fast and he has these short sentences that move it along really quickly, and that is who I patterned myself behind.

What’s on the horizon for you in 2015?

I will graduate from college with my Associates and I am going right back for my Bachelor’s degree.  I will definitely release The Chronicles of Epiphany Jones Volume II and my goal is to release The Evolution of Stella Moreau, but that will probably be towards the end of 2015.   Then I have another novel called Love & Louboutins it is another adult fiction that I am working on and that is the end of 2015, early 2016.  There is another book that was put on my heart to write and it’s more personal, not non-fiction, and it is called Things I Lost While in the Fire.  It’s a guide to letting go.
