Exclusive interview with Catherine Crumber

We spoke with Catherine Crumber about her latest novels and her goals as a writer, author, and Entrepreneur. She is author in Christian and Inspirational fiction genre.

Tell us about your latest novel and current project.

My latest novel is coming out May 2015 called Meet the Royals. It’s a novel based on Black millionaires within the 1940’s. Before that, the one that I completed is called Elevated, a Tale and that one is available now. Elevated, a Tale is sort of a “Love Jones” story. We have a guy who has gone through some traumatic experiences in his childhood and it’s haunting him in his adulthood. As he is looking to break away from those bondages, he meets a young lady under some unusual circumstances and she inspires him to aim higher.

What is the message that you want your audience to walk away with your latest novels?

With Elevated a Tale, I want the audience to walk away with knowing that just because you started at a particular spot does not mean you have to stay there. You can definitely move on to more positive and greater things in your life. Yeah (she laughs), you’re actually getting an exclusive because I have not told anyone the title yet. Meet The Royals, is based on African American millionaires that existed in the 1940’s. Contrary to popular belief there were actually some black millionaires that was doing quite well during that time. It’s a love tug-a-war story set in the Bahamas surrounding a wedding. You can actually go to my website and read the first chapter.

Who would you compare your writing style to?

You know that is a good question and I don’t know if I would compare myself to anyone as far as my writing style. I will tell you that I admire Toni Morrison very much. I like to one day meet her, I love her writing. The first adult novel that I was allowed to read was Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. I fell in love with her writing ever since that book.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Well again, Toni Morrison. After Toni Morrison, I would have to say Terry McMillan. I like her writings as well.

What’s on the horizon for you in 2015?

2015, I am looking to stretch out. I have been writing 30 seconds commercial spots for television and radio. I have completed my first screen play years ago based on my first novel, The Love of You. I am hoping to take some my screen plays and ideas for television shows and get in front of the right people who can make it happen or assist me in making it happen. I am launching my magazine in June 2015, That’s Entertainment Magazine (T.E.M.). T.E.M is about celebrating independent talent. Talent comes in all forms shapes and fashions and I just want to give everyone a platform.
