We had the chance to sit down with Shmel Carter to discuss her latest novel Diva’s with Drama and collaboration Certified Street Bitch II with R.L. Welch.
Tell us about your latest novel .
I co-wrote Certified Street Bitch II with R. L. Welch who asked me to be a part of the project. It’s a story about a woman who started dating a guy when she was a teenager. She did a ten year sentence for him, and the whole time she was locked up he didn’t write her, visit her, or send her money. He left her there and did absolutely nothing for her. When she came home they reconnected and now they are like a Bonnie & Clyde.
What is the message you want your readers to take away after reading your latest novels?
With Certified Street Bitch II – Love is strong and the heart is funny. People always say,what they would and would not do. You don’t know what you will do when your really in love with someone. The message in Diva With Drama is a message to women that it really doesn’t matter how much money you have, how good of a job you have, or how much education you have. You will always have some drama. Drama is going to be there and you will always have someone who don’t like you and talk about you. That’s just part of life, just continue to do what you know to do for you.
Who would you compare your writing style with?
I never really thought about it because I think everyone’s writing style is pretty much different. The people who know me know my writing style.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Nikki Turner, Donald Goines, and Juanita Clarke.
What’s on the horizon for Author Shmel Carter in 2015?
I am planning on completing Certified Street Bitch III with R. L. Welch, Side Nigga II is coming out very soon that I co-authored with Quisha Dynae, and I am writing a novel called Enough that will be published last.
