Welcome New writer- Tamikka Malloy

We are happy to announce new contributing writer to our Sistah’s Place Entertainment blog, Tamikka Malloy.

Who is Tamikka Malloy?

I am a mother, Writer/Poet/Author who works for Camden County Community College as a library assistant. Before that I was an English, Reading, and Writing tutor for 4 years. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism from Rutgers University (2007) and a master in Writing from Rowan University (2012). I am an avid reader who can quickly get lost in the right book. I am what they call a bibliophile, or what I like to call a “Book Junkie”.   I have works published on a site called Timbooktu, a literary site for African American writers. I have a huge infatuation and connection to the 1920s-30s and the Harlem Renaissance era. I always tell people that I think I was born in the wrong time period, and if were a time I could go back to it would be the 20’s and 30’s, and for nostalgias sake, the 80’s… And while by nature I love books and writing, I have absolute passion for fashion. In my spare time, I am a freelance makeup artist, fashion/beauty/lifestyle blogger, and a foodie who knows her way around the kitchen, and gets a kick out photographing everything that I cook or purchase when dinning out.

What she loves about Sistah’s Place Entertainment blog and what she can bring to our platform?

What I especially like about Sistah’s Place Blog Entertainment is the authentic feel that it has. I feel like with this technological world that we live in today, with all the social media platforms and such; it has to some degree diminished the craft known as Journalism and /or Creative Writing that those of us have really worked hard at and have a real passion for. Anyone can create a blog and deem themselves a “Writer”, which strike a nerve with me because I know all of the hard work and long hours and sleepless nights I dedicated to becoming a writer and perfecting craft and gift that God gave me…

I write from world experiences, whether direct or indirect, and my writing is such that it conveys the topic in a real relatable way that connects with the reader. My writing style has a breezy tone and flexible. Because I have an array of interest, I can adapt to and write about a host of topics across disciplines. That is what I can bring to Sistah’s Place Blog. As I have learned and grown over the years, life’s experiences have made me wiser than I could have ever imagined. Having lost my mother only 3 short years ago this month, being a single mom myself, and starting my academic career in my adult years, I can bring inspiration and prompt self-awareness… I am very proud of who I am today, and of all the hats that wear.

What inspires Tamikka Malloy?

I am inspired by life, and I draw from everything around when I write. Writing has always been the way I expressed myself, even as kid because I was extremely introverted then. But through my writing I was unstoppable. As I state in my blog’s bio page, “words are my weapon, and I get to pick and choose how to use them…..”

Interesting facts about Tamikka Malloy:

  1. My novel is still in manuscript form. The tentative tile is “Wanting Manhattan” It is a YA Historical fiction piece comprised of a collection of short stories, each told from the perspective of a different character, however the common thread throughout all of them is the protagonist and the infamous Cotton Club…
  2. I have two blogs: One is dedicated to all things literary where I display some of my written work.  The other blog is a fashion/beauty/lifestyle blog….
