We sat down with blogger and now author Khrystian Nicole to talk about her new novel called Single Girl Gems. Khrystian turned her blogs into a novel that is based on her real life adventures and experiences in dating. This year has truly been a year of greatness for women given birth to their dreams and sharing their stories and journey in literature. She recalls a pastor’s statement and quote, “it’s a year of restoration.” “We are all restoring our faith and getting our dreams back. It’s time out for sitting on thoughts, and time to give birth to everything you want to do in your life.”
Tell us abut your novel, Single Girls Gem
Well, Single Girls Gem is nonfiction. Its real life and it pertain to and deals with me on my dating adventures that I had and real life experiences that I had. It began off as a blog actually. I was a girl blogging once a week maybe or once a month maybe. It started off really slow. I had a co-worker that was always asking me on the Monday after the weekend, what you do this weekend, who you go out with on a date, or what happened on this date? She was always in my business and she told me that, “She was living vicariously through me.” She was a married woman at the time and it was not just her, but a lot of my co-workers were doing this to me.
We would sit in the lounge and they ask me all these things. She told me one day that if I wrote a blog she would read it. So, I started blogging and that’s where the blog came from. From there, people started in boxing me saying how they could relate to something that I wrote or that they were going to share it with someone. A lot of people started asking me, “why don’t’ you write a book”, if you wrote a book I would read it. That’s how Single Girl Gems was birthed.
What inspired Single Girl Gems?
I think what literally got Single Girl Gems part done is because I would have little tidbits or little nuggets that I would throw out there. I was trying to figure out what’s the best way I can say this? What’s a cutesy way? I am all about the cutesy. I love themes. When I am throwing hosting parties, I am trying to put together some idea of whether you are going to wear a specific color or come in a specific look. How can I put it in a creative way for my voice? I was a single girl giving out gems not necessary for only single women or only single makers. It just my point of view. Its gems written by me a single girl.
What’s the message you want your readers to receive after reading your novel?
I think that the biggest message is that life is funny and you cannot take it too seriously. We all go through roles in life and we have down places. I want people to be inspired when their reading it. In fact, some people have called me and said hey, “you know I didn’t think I was going to be inspired I just didn’t know what to expect after reading it. I ended up being inspired by it.” I would love for that to be the overall message.
Yeah you might be single or you might be happily married, or you might be newly divorced. It doesn’t matter where you are in your life. There is something that you can pick up from someone experiences, you always see the bright side to things, and you can always know that yeah it’s raining today and it’s gloomy out here. But it doesn’t mean the sun is going to shine. Flowers are going to bloom. There is a rainbow after the storm. I just want people to be inspired after reading it.
What’s on the horizon for the remainder of the 2015 for you?
Well, I am continuing on with my tour for Single Girl Gems. I am super excited to be doing this interview with you (Sistah’s Place2) and there are other interviews going on. Not only that, other opportunities have come up so I am now a guest blogger for Broadway World. This all stem from being a writer. I get to go to different plays around the Houston area and blog about it giving my critique of it.
I do have a children’s book coming out, I am just waiting on my illustrator to finish. I have so many ideas for books that not only children’s books, educational books, motivational books, and fictional books. Life is still happening. I have launched my own boutique publishing company called KNC Publishing.
I would love for Single Girl Gems to turn into a film or documentary, or Radio or television show. It all about things that are happening daily that everybody goes thru that I was the person that wrote about it.
