What was it that made you decide to write a book?
I wrote this first book as a way to provide for children who may be going through difficult times at home. When her family experienced a difficult divorce, it was her 5 year-old daughter that wanted to understand why mean things happen. This book helps direct conversation about tough situations.
What inspired your book title Kind Words: The Glue that Helps Keep Us Together?
The title was inspired through experience and how words can positively or negatively affect others in big ways.
Without giving too much away, tell us what your story is about.
The book is about bringing awareness to a sensitive topic and creating a safe space to discuss tough things that might happen at home and how it is not the children’s fault, they are not alone, and it is okay to ask for help.
Is there a message you like readers to walk away with after reading Kind Words: The Glue That Helps Keep Us Together?
- Always be kind your words
- It is not your fault when people are mean
- It is okay to ask for help when you are afraid or worried about someone
What makes your book stand out from all the rest in your genre?
There are few books about emotional duress at home. Parents often don’t realize how their language and voice affect their children.
What’s next for your as an author?
Absolutely! The next one is titled, “Thinking Thoughts: Are They A Little or A Lot,” and is a rhythmic story that delicately weaves a light-hearted message about the importance of positive inner self-talk, self-belief, and ways to redirect “thinking thoughts” though tough times.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
- Brene Brown because she talks about real issues like vulnerability and personal growth.
- Dr. Suess because he made reading fun.
- Mary Pope Osborne because of the adventures and educational experiences.
