Mirror, Mirror On the Wall
I have never seen my own face. If you think about it, you have never seen your face either. It is physically impossible to do. You can only behold your reflected self via a smooth reflective surface. To get a bit scientific; ” When a photon of light hits a mirror it cause the electrons in the atom to vibrate and give off an identical photon of light.” SOURCE
How well you see yourself depends on the object of refraction. I have spoken on Talulazoeapple about living a parallel life. I mean that people come into your life who have experienced or are currently experiencing similar issues. It is as if you are seeing your life refracted. If the person is a smooth surface – sane, relatable, similar to you – you can see yourself clearly. Recognizing your mistakes in someone else helps us acknowledge our own shortcoming which we are blind to.
Why is this?
I believe God understands that we cannot see ourselves –
“Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” James 1:23-24.
He sends His word or His people to cause us to reflect on our own lives. Years ago, I would see the people who looked most like me, out of shape and unhealthy. Recognizing this in others helped me to see the unhealthy lifestyle I was living. I changed my focus. I started to look at people who have lost a ton of weight by eating healthy and exercising. I started to adjust my habits to reflect those of a health conscious person. I like who I see in the mirror.
Our ‘mirrors’ are not passive in this exchange. You see – the light you send out, you get back. If you want positivity in your relationships, send it out. The simplest example of this is a smile. Walk by a stranger and smile, instinctively he/she will smile back. Those positive photons in action.
