Too often we concern ourselves with the opinions of others. We surrender to them power over our destinies. Whether or not they like us or think we are good enough has nothing to do with the truth of who we are and what we can do. God has a plan for our lives and He can open doors that no man can close. We have to believe it and receive it by faith.
There is no need to be concerned about your enemies, the naysayers that ridicule you, fight against you, and try to block you from succeeding. When you put your life in God’s hands, His favor will bless you right in front of them. An enemy is not just someone who hates you. An enemy is also anyone who speaks against what God has placed in your heart for you to do. I call it “friendly fire”. They may care about you, but they are against what you are called by God to do.
There was a time when I was looking for a position as a staff accountant. I was working with a recruiter and she said that based on my background I didn’t have enough experience for her to find me my desired position. I asked her, “If I can’t get a position as a staff accountant, then how do I get the experience to be a staff accountant?” She responded “yes, that is a problem”.
A week later the recruiter called me and said that they had a client that needed a temp to fill in for their accounting manager who was going on maternity leave; I said I would take the assignment. To be honest, I was a little nervous because it was an accounting manager’s position with a staff accountant who reported to the manager. I wasn’t sure if I could handle it because it was more than I was looking for in a position. I had to remind myself that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
When I went to the job, I found out that they already had a temp there working to fill in for the manager but after a month the temp suddenly left. Can you say, “open door”? I not only filled in for the accounting manager during her leave, but when she returned, she was promoted to Controller and I was hired as the Accounting Manager. They said I couldn’t get a staff accountant position, but God positioned me for Accounting Manager.
What God has for you is for you. Don’t let anyone stop you from following your dreams and fulfilling your destiny. He is able to do “exceeding abundantly above all that you can ask or think” and He will do it…in the presence of your enemies!
