Brandee talks about her book called My COINZ Journal talks about why she wrote it and what was the inspiration behind her debut book. Tell Us about who the author is so that our audience can learn a little about you.
I am Brandee Harrington. I am originally from Chicago, IL and I decided that Jackson, MS would be my home after I attended college. Upon attending college and realizing it does not snow that mere fact changed my entire idea about moving back. Having worked in various positions for Marketing and sales my passion for homeownership and real estate became more dominant. I now am the Broker/ Owner for J. Daniel Realty LLC. Additionally, I am an active Real estate Investor, Property Manager, and now Author. Brandee resides in Jackson, MS with her husband and two daughters.
What was it that made you decide to write a book?
I decided to write this book/journal because as I talked with others about my situation, I realized that collectively we are all in the same boat. This topic is so uncomfortable however not planning has caused more issues for our families then we want to admit.
What inspired your book title and is this fiction or non-fiction?
Honestly, I knew that the title had to be short, fun, and important…outside your family what matters most to you? -Your COINZ… So, when that title was birthed into my spirit, I knew that would be the best title. The book is Fiction.
Without giving too much away, tell us what your book is about.
I was inspired to write My COINZ Journal after having to scramble to find financial information when my Mom suddenly became ill.
I designed this resourceful tool to help loved ones manage their own and/or family members’ financial assets and resources. My COINZ Journal provides a series of steps aimed to aid family members in documenting their personal affairs. In return, it reduces chaos many experiences during a life-changing even.
Is there a message you like readers to walk away with after reading your book?
Yes, I would like others to know that growing up this was not a talk that was actively discussed in my family. I see now what has happened to me and our family as a result of not discussing this topic. Additionally, I see in families how we lose property, family homes, and land as a result of not discussing our financial resources. Planning now ensures that what you have worked hard for is passed on to the ones that matter most-your family! Not the state!
What makes your book stand out from all the rest in your genre?
There is not a tool nor is there a lot out her on this subject! It is my hope that my changing the narrative we can start to pass on generational wealth.
What is next for you as an author? Will there be more books?
Yes, there are so many things I am working on. I am currently writing my second journal/book My COINZ-Small Business. Additionally, I am going to put out another book about Grief, Anxiety, and Fear. Also work on a group that addresses topics such as Mindset, Real Estate, Wealth- how to get it.
Who are some of your favorite authors and why?
Maya Angelo-She wrote for women who had no voice. She challenged me to change the narrative and not let pain, trials, and hardships to cripple me. She effortlessly traversed the worlds of literature and activism making the world better.
Michelle Obama– She inspires me because she is very relatable. Additionally, her entire story from her upbringing in Chicago and the numerous prestigious careers she shows how her voice changed so many lives.
Toni Morrison-If there is a book that you want to read, but it has not been written yet, you must be the one to write it. I just love this quote! Additionally, I love how she spoke up for African Americans (especially women).
