Tell our audience who Sharon L. Almon is.

My call has been to uplift, motivate, encourage and champion individuals particularly women who have counted themselves out. I consider myself a personal cheerleader and coach and have walked in my call and purpose through a career choice of working in the non-for-profit management arena for the past 20+ years.  A native of Illinois my loving husband of 39 years and I relocated to the Atlanta metro area in 1999.  We are the proud parents of two children James, who has served in the US Navy for the past 16 years and married to the beautiful Tarmika.  Our daughter Christine a University of Georgia (UGA) graduate works in corporate America.  We are the proud grandparents (Nana and Papa) of Jayde.  I contribute the following three keys to our successful marriage:  Our Faith, Friendship and Fun.  Things I enjoy include gardening, crafts, cooking, traveling and entertaining guests.

What was it that made you decided to write a book?

My husband an IT professional actually inspired me to write the book. He wanted me to share our personal story from a wife’s perspective how to deal with financial loss in a marriage, as a result of him being downsized 3x in our marriage.  One duration was for 2 years and 3 months. I share and provide practical tools to individuals and couples how to not only survive but to thrive financial loss in their relationship.

What inspired you book title?

The title of the book, “More Than A Paycheck” was taken directly from our life experience of living with the loss of my husband’s six-digit income 3x during our marriage as a result of being downsized. I had to look deep inside and identify the tangibles of why I loved him.  These were qualities that had absolutely nothing to do with his paycheck. Things such as his character, integrity, determination, loyalty to his family. The book is non-fiction.

Without giving too much away, tell us what your story is about?

More Than A Paycheck is a wife’s story of faith, love and renewal in the face of financial adversity. I provide practical tools that help couples and individuals not only survive but thrive when facing the unexpected.

Is there a message you like readers to walk away with after reading your book?

Personally I believe marriage rocks!!! It is not the dying dinosaur or negative statistic you always hear or read about in the news. It is investment like exercise; no pain no gain! Like the stock market dividends, they increase over time. Based on the time spent on your investment, it will determine your Return On Investment (ROI). The investment will result in a thriving marriage. Marriage is supposed to be a life-long commitment…. It’s not easy but you can achieve heaven on earth if you are willing to tackle the challenges.

What makes your book stand out from all the rest in your genre?

More Than A Paycheck offers hope and practical tools for individuals and couples that can be implemented at no cost to the reader.  The book is a love story and an easy read that draws the reader into a journey of the writer.

What’s next for you as an author? Will there be more books?

I am considering putting my book on audio format and also creating a workbook. My primary focus is seeking more speaking opportunities to share my journey through social media, radio, television, conferences and workshops both virtual and in person when safe to do so.

Who are 3 of your favorite authors?

  1. T.D. Jakes: All his books are books of hope, offer tools to improve one’s skill-set with faith being the core principle.
  2. First Lady Michelle Obama: Her book was inspiring, relatable, and transparent and revealed a personal side of her journey that promotes hope!
  3. Bishop Wiley Jackson: Bishop Jackson’s books speak to individuals from a Ph.D. to a GED. His books inspire an individual to Take Action and be all that God created you to be.  To live out your purpose in the world and that is what I try to do each and every day.

  1. I read Sharon’s book a long time ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sharon is a beautiful person, Saint, mother, grandmother—just lovely. As her First them as they endured their trials and no one ever knew they were having difficulties. They continue to attend church, show love, personified happiness, ministered to the married couples, and pay tithes/offerings. It’s a blessing just knowing Sharon & Maurice. They are two great people——such a blessing.
