Tyler Perry’s Acrimony staring the awesome Taraji P. Henson as Melinda who was a woman that was no joke. She was a woman in raged with bitterness and anger. As I watched this movie I found myself getting mad at the character Melinda for her naivetés when it came to Robert Gayle played by lyriq Bent. He came off as the player of the year who was a smooth talker in his college days.
Young Melinda (Ajiona Alexus) made choices that one in reality I didn’t agree with. My daughter and I discussed that young men prey on college girls like Robert (Antonio Madison). I mean she bought him a car and paid his tuition for his last two semesters. The women in the audience got mad as I did.
Taraji P. Henson performance was outstanding as Melinda. She had the audience talking back to the screen at her character’s decisions. One of our favorite lines, “You know I can be the Devil”. We hit the floor because by now Melinda has lost it. We all understand supporting your man’s dream, but at what costs? Robert (Lyriq Bent) took his wife through an emotional rollercoaster that costs her mental health and financial mindset. I was not liking him at first but when he got his big break the brother did right by her with that check for $10 million. However, that gift would send Melinda to a dark place mentally after she meets for the second time Diana played by Crystle Stewart. Diana is the woman Robert cheated on her when they were in college.
Overall the movie was good but the ending made me mad. With all of Tyler Perry’s movies there is always a message for his audience to take away. What message did I walk away with? Don’t be a fool for anyone, guard your heart, get to know a person, love yourself first, and set boundaries.
