Shurvone Wright was the featured entrepreneur in the December 2021 issue of Sistah’s Place magazine. The article focused on her many business ventures and projects. The story behind one venture, Confidence Without Regret: The Butterfly Experience, was so amazing that we felt it needed to be shared. Read about Shurvone’s physical and emotional transformation, as well as the resulting blessings, from her butterfly experience.
One-night Shurvone Wright had a dream about a big butterfly on her back. “It was beautiful; it didn’t scare me. I just thought, ‘Wow, it’s really pretty.’” Three days after the dream she shaved her head because her hair was really thin, and she did not want to hide. “Surprisingly, when I shaved my head, almost immediately I felt free.” She also felt a sense of peace.
A few days after shaving her head, Shurvone posted pictures of her bald head on her Facebook and LinkedIn pages and her LinkedIn page went crazy. “I couldn’t understand why people were drawn to my bald head.” That was when Confidence Without Regret: The Butterfly Experience came to life.
“I felt like my entire life I struggled with accepting myself, being beautiful, talking in front of people…just everything about confidence…I struggled all my life. But when I shaved my head, I felt like God was saying that was the ultimate level of accepting yourself.” She felt free to share her life without fear. And she wants other women to do the same.
The mission of Confidence Without Regret: The Butterfly Experience is to empower women to stand in their power unapologetically and to embrace every experience as part of the transformational journey. It also means that they should be able to stand in their boldness and feel free and beautiful no matter what they are, what they are doing, and how they are doing it. “…God used this experience…to say, ‘If you’re going to teach it, you need to walk it. And this is me walking it.”
Five months after Shurvone shaved her head, she was diagnosed with alopecia, a medical condition that causes patchy hair loss. The dream she had about the beautiful butterfly was preparing her for the transition to baldness. It was also an answer to the question of why her hair was thinning over the years.
In addition to elevating Shurvone’s confidence on many levels, being bald has drawn a new audience to her, “a tribe of women I never would have imagined: women who are bald.” She wants to encourage them “to embrace your beauty, and to let your inner beauty shine.“
