Sistah’s Place continues to give back to the literary world each week with a weekly spotlight for new authors. This week’s Author spotlight feature is with Bridgette Rahming. She talks with us about her new release; A Prayer Answered: A Pure Heart’s Desire. Please sit back, get your cup of coffee or tea, and get to know a little about Brigette in our Q&A session.
Tell us a little about yourself Brigette
BR: I am a woman of faith who is a 36-year-old Black woman, mother of two beautiful children. I am a proud Alumnae of Alverno College class of 2016.
What was it that made you decide to write a book?
BR: I always knew I would write a book… it wasn’t until my husband, and I went through Pre-Marital Classes at our church (Christian Faith Fellowship Church) that our Marriage Counselors and now adopted Mom and Pops Elders Robert & Eloise Jones prophesied that our marriage was going to bless and birth our many happy and healthy marriages in our age group. We laughed at them and thought they were being funny. No sooner than we got married, we started finding ourselves being advocates for marriage, supporting our friends and acquaintances through relationship issues. It was then I told God if this is what you want us to do, make it plan. We went through numerous obstacles in our marriages, but we overcame them. This book was actually written when our marriage just returned from the brink; we were both contemplating divorce in one way or another. We took our 10th Wedding Anniversary road trip to Tennessee to see my God-Sister. Read the book, and you will know her significance. On that trip, we worked through all our issues, and when we got back home, God told me, “now you can write my book,” I told my husband, and the rest is history.
What inspired your book title, and is this fiction or non-fiction?
BR: The reality of this story was to me and it is a non-fiction story.
Without giving too much away, tell us what your story is about
BR: It is Christian love story, wrapped up in childlike faith, manifested in destiny.
Is there a message you like readers to walk away with after reading your book?
BR: That God hears your prayers, and his will for your life is perfect. If you get out his way… you will be mesmerized at all God has in store for you! Just trust him in every area of your life and watch him move. He is the real author of each of our stories… the story has already been written… just stay on the orders for you.
What makes your book stand out from all the rest in your genre?
BR: I have never heard of a Christian Love Story. I believe that is what intrigued my readers as well. As a church girl, you are told to now read love stories and romantic novels, but Saved Folks fall in love too… so why not? This is a story about how God ordained this union before we even knew each other. It is a story of when destiny and love collide.
What’s next for you as an author? Will there be more books?
BR: YES! I am currently working with my Publisher now on my 2nd book.
Who are some of your favorite authors, and Why?
BR: I have been really into upcoming local authors like Bishop Darrell & Pastor Pamela Hines (my pastors), Oliva Reel, Jessica Johnson, Ebony P. Jones, and Daniel Harris. Authors I have loved for years as a reader are Eric Jerome Dickey, Terry McMillian, Iyanla Vanzant, Pastor John Gray, Michelle Obama, and Maryann Reid.
