New Author Spotlight interview with Denise Walker

Author

Sistah’s Place continues to give back to the literary world each week with a weekly spotlight for new authors. This week’s Author spotlight feature is with Denise Walker. She talks with us about her release, Barren Womb, which is apart of the Redemption Series. Grab your favorite beverage and sit back and get to know a little about Author Denise Walker in our Q&A session.

Tell us about who the author is to give readers an insight to who your are.

DW: I am a minister, wife, mother, podcaster, experienced educator, and entrepreneur. I have educated youth for over 20 years. Most of my career has been serving middle school youth and mentoring preteen and teen girls. I am the founder of Hope-in-Christ Ministries, Inc., and the owner of Armor of Hope Writing & Publishing Services, LLC. In addition, I am the creator and facilitator of the Hope-in-Christ Book Club Facebook group, the host of Hope-in-Christ w/Denise and Building Literacy & True Identity podcasts.

What was it that made you decide to write a book?

DW: I was led to write after I overcame, through Christ, my past. I was also inspired due to my love for teaching reading and English.

What inspired your book title, and is this fiction or non-fiction?

DW: My book is fiction. The title was inspired by what I personally walked through and because I was told I wouldn’t be able to have children.

Without giving too much away, what is your story is about?

DW: My story is about a young lady who is given horrible news. As a result, she seeks alternative ways to get what she fills will fulfill her life, but she still finds herself empty. Then, she is presented with an unexpected answer, which she struggles to accept.

Is there a message you like readers to walk away with after reading your book?

DW: Yes, barrenness is beyond physical.

What makes your book stand out from all the rest in your genre?

DW: I believe it stands out because it addresses things that our society tries to brush under the rug, but we (women) continue to struggle with it on a daily basis.

What’s next for you as an author?  Will there be more books?

DW: Yes, I plan to write at least two more books in this series.

Who are some of your favorite authors? (Name at least 3 and why?)

DW: Wow, I have so many favorites. If I could pick three, I would say, Jacquelin Thomas, Kim Cash Tate, and Rhonda McKnight. I love the way they weave together their stories of faith. I’ve read so many of their books.
